This project was born in 2018 during a startup weekend in Yuma, Arizona. The event gathered students from universities around Mexico and the US and serve as a purpose to generate ideas and turn them into life. Our project was called: VetBot.

The current problems we were looking to solve were the following:
Searching for information on how to take care of your pet was overwhelming
Getting quick access to information about nearby and trustworthy veterinarians was tricky
Losing your pet and not knowing where you can find it

Everything started during the first day of the week when we had to choose what idea we wanted to develop. I decided to go with the approach of a smart pet assistant for the problems mentioned before and would be designing and developing the app with my teammates from the Mexicali Institute of Technology

Once we had the idea, we started to work on designing and developing concepts for it. Since this was a project for a startup weekend, we also had to think about creating a report and presentation so we had limited time in general.
The initial focus was to create 3 areas:
Intelligent Chat: Here the user could chat with an assistant and ask questions on how to treat their pet, recommendations about food and if they needed to go to a veterinarian.
Location on map: The user could open a map and look for nearby veterinarians that could take care of their pet. They could see where their pet is located with the help of a chip attached to their collar.
Register a pet: Finally, the user can register their pet (or pets) in the app and track information such as weight, age, food they eat, activities they like, etc.

After working on the concept for 2 days, we presented our results to the audience. The project was well received with other students, teachers and people that were in charge of leading the Startup Weekend.
We then were awarded 2nd place in the competition for our contributions.

There were a lot of concepts that we wanted to develop for the future, some of them were the following:
Collar design for pets to locate them
Brand design and adapting the app to have UX best practices
Mark veterinarians as favorites and have a way to filter by specific criteria
Follow and add other users and/or pets
Discover areas for pets to gather and play
Match with other pets for your pet to go on a date
This is a concept that I'd like to revive in the future and bring it to life. One day I hope that becomes true.
